With all the signings GM Bob Gainey done this summer, one can't help but wonder what the 2009-10 version of the Montreal Canadiens will look like. Described as a small but speedy team, they will be relying on some great speedy forwards once again this year. Undersized but with lots of talent, you cannot help but to think this will be a good year to close the Centennial season. Things on paper are appearing to be very good, and that it will be a good season.
Although the controversy of the unrestricted free agents being let go to sign in with teams from their own division (a la Komisarek with Toronto, Kovalev with Ottawa and Begin with Boston), the new additions to the team will bring in a breath of fresh air to our Habs. The face of the organization has changed, starting with the owners going from Mr. Gillet jr. to the Molson family once again. And the crop of free agents coming to town brings a glimmer of hope. The players brought in by Gainey have had success in the past, and we fans do wish the trend continues.
That being said, I still personally feel one of the problems of our team still wasn't adressed. The size of the forwards. 6 out of the 13 players are under 6 feet. The tallest one being Laraque at 6'3" , with 4 others being at 6'2". There's still missing that big power forward type player that could demand respect in the corners and instill fear in the opponents defenseman. Another thing missing is grit. Every Stanley Cup winning team has some players with some grit, who aren't afraid to get their nose in the action and go around the net in traffic.
Nonetheless, I am very excited for the 2009-10 season to get under way, and until then I will be keeping up on the sports news, and enjoying the summer before the long winter starts.
Have a great summer everyone!

If I could write a letter to me ...
"If I could write a letter to me
And send it back in time to myself at 17"
Truer words were never spoken. In the position I am in, if I could write a letter to myself when I was 17, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I really don't like the direction my life is going right now. The rest is going down the shitter. I have a job I hate, which ain't steady hours... I have no car, no appartment. I'm 22 years old and I have no credit. I have trouble saving 5$. I really wish my life had some direction in it right now.
If I could write a letter to myself when I was 17, I'd tell myself to concentrate on my school work. I'd probly have a great job right now, cuz I probly would've been able to enter university. Instead, I barely graduated and working a suck ass job. I applied at a few places today so hopefully my life will head another direction.
Right now, I am just really displeased at where its going.
